Osimhen out with ankle injury

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 9, 2023

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen was forced to withdraw from the club’s training on Tuesday after suffering an injury to his right ankle.

As reported by Italian journalist, Gianluca Di Marzio, Osimhen left the Napoli training session during their practice match after colliding with new signing Natan de Souza as he suffered a tough blow to his right ankle.

He was visibly pained as he limped off the pitch and instantly applied an ice pack to his ankle. Initial tests suggest that he’s suffered an ankle sprain, something that shouldn’t keep him out of action for too long.

The club hopes he will be fit in time for their Serie A season opener on August 19 with a trip to Frosinone.

Before now, the Super Eagles striker missed Napoli’s penultimate pre-season game against Augsburg on Sunday due to a muscle strain, which he just fully recovered from. He had also missed a pre-season game against Girona.

The Nigerian has not trained fully with the team until Tuesday.

Osimhen has been regularly linked with a high-profile move away from Napoli this summer but seems likely to pen a new contract, despite the lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.

The 24-year-old Nigerian forward was the star of the show for the Partenopei last season, netting 26 goals in 32 league games as the team flew to their first Scudetto in 33 years.
