Boavista, the ninth-ranked club in Portugal Liga last season, has secured the services of Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi on a permanent basis.
The Nigerian international’s outstanding performances during his loan spell earned him a rewarding new deal with the club.
Hailing from Owerri, Bruno Onyemaechi initially joined Boavista on a season-long loan from Feirense, a second-tier Portuguese side. Throughout the season, he displayed remarkable skills and contributed significantly to the team’s success.
Onyemaechi’s contributions were evident in his 33 appearances across all competitions, proving pivotal to Boavista’s impressive ninth-place finish in the Portugal Liga, their best result since 2019.
Recognizing his exceptional abilities, Boavista has now secured the permanent transfer of the 24-year-old Super Eagles defender. In order to finalize the deal, Boavista reportedly paid Feirense €1 million.
What sets Onyemaechi apart is his versatility, as he can effectively play as a center-back, left-back, or even in central midfield.
This adaptability adds depth and flexibility to Boavista’s defensive lineup, making him a valuable asset to the team.
With this signing, Onyemaechi joins fellow Nigerian compatriot Chidozie Awaziem at Boavista.
However, the two defenders have not yet played together at either the club or national team level. Nevertheless, under the guidance of coach Petit, they may have the opportunity to collaborate and strengthen Boavista’s defense.
However, the possibility of their partnership may depend on Awaziem’s future at the club, considering his track record of playing for multiple teams over the past four years.
As Bruno Onyemaechi commits his future to Boavista, the club looks forward to his continued contributions and anticipates a successful season ahead.
His versatility and defensive prowess will undoubtedly bolster the team’s performance and further enhance Boavista’s standing in the Portugal Liga.
