Ex-Nigeria and Man City Star Etuhu Banned For Match Fixing

By Daily Sports on April 18, 2020

Former Nigeria international Dickson Etuhu has been handed a five-year ban from football-related activities in Sweden.

The defensive midfielder, who is a former AIK player, was found guilty of attempting to influence the result of a Swedish match in May 2017.

Etuhu, 37, allegedly offered former AIK goalkeeper Kyriakos Stamatopoulos money to underperform during a match against IFK Gothenburg.

The Swedish FA released the following statement indicating that Etuhu has been banned alongside former IFK Rossjoholm player Alban Jusufi.

“The Disciplinary Board has decided to suspend two people because they have deliberately tried to persuade a football player to underperform in one of the team’s matches.”

“Through their actions, these people have violated the anti-match fixing regulations, and they are therefore suspended for five years.”

“The ban includes training, competing or performing any assignments in any sports,” a statement read.

Etuhu played in the English Premier League for Sunderland, Fulham and Manchester City.

He represented Nigeria 33 times and was part of the Super Eagles squad at the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals. (African Football)
