English Premier League giants, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool are set to begin negotiations with Napoli over the signing of Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The 2022/23 campaign saw success return to Old Trafford after years of concern, as the Red Devils won silverware (Carabao Cup) for the first time in seven years after beating Newcastle 2-0 in the final.
Manager, Erik ten Hag, brought European football back to Old Trafford as his side finished third in the Premier League.
Securing Champions League football was vital for the club’s ambition in the coming transfer window, as a host of Europe’s elite players have been linked with a move to Manchester.
The need to sign a striker has been clear over recent weeks, and the Red Devils are set to rival Chelsea for the signing of Osimhen.
The Blues will look back on the 2022/23 campaign reluctantly, as they finished 12th in the Premier League and recorded the lowest points tally (44) in the club’s history.
This poor display has made summer signings a priority and given the club’s lack of goals, bringing Osimhen to Stamford Bridge may be the necessary step although the Nigeria international has revealed his desire to play among Europe’s best next season.
The Nigerian was a key member in Napoli’s title-winning side, forming a superb partnership with Georgian international, Khivcha Kvaratskhelia and helping the Parthenopeans to their first league title in 33 years.
The 24-year-old prolific striker had an outstanding campaign with Napoli, scoring 31 goals and providing five assists from just 39 appearances across all competitions.
Any deal to land the former Lille star could face slight issues, as the Italian side have valued Osimhen at a staggering, £150m a fee that would smash the British transfer record.
