Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged Erik ten Hag to prioritise the signing of Nigerian and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the summer.
The Red Devils are searching for a new striker in the summer to ease the goal-scoring burden on Marcus Rashford and Osimhen has been touted.
The 24-year-old has taken Italian football by storm to become one of the most sought-after players in Europe following his exploits in Serie A and ten Hag has also shown his admiration for the Nigeria international.
Osimhen has bagged 19 goals in 22 Serie A outings and the former French international claims the Super Eagles striker is a strong United fan which he feels will make the deal easier to complete.
The ex-France international feels the Red Devils board should let Wout Weghorst who turns 31 later this year leave at the end of the season and bring in Osimhen, noting that his arrival will further strengthen United’s frontline.
“Victor Osimhen is another striker we’ve seen that is linked with Manchester United and I believe that he’s a United fan, which would work nicely. It’s clear to see that with the style of play that Erik Ten Hag likes to play, there is room for improvement in the striker position,” Saha said as quoted by The UK Express.
“I don’t see Wout Weghorst being a threat up top on his own, like what we’ve seen in the past with Andy Cole and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who could score goals on their own, and that’s not the strength of Weghorst.”
The former Wolfsburg striker scored twice in Parthenopeans Champions League win over Frankfurt on Wednesday to take his goal tally to 23 goals in all competitions this season.
Osimhen has two years left on his contract at Napoli. Reports in Italy claimed the former Lille forward is currently valued at €150m.
