Belgium Jupiler League side KRC Genk has confirmed that Nigerian striker Tolulope Arokodare will be out of action for weeks.
The lanky attacker was substituted after 12 minutes in their 3-0 win over Oostende on Sunday, with Genk manager Wout Vrancken confirming that the 22-year-old suffered a knee injury.
He, however, allayed fears of a more serious problem when he announced that it was not a cruciate ligament problem.
“Tolu had knee problems, but it wouldn’t be a cruciate ligament injury,” Vrancken said.
Genk, however, confirmed on Tuesday that the forward would be away for unspecified weeks.
Arokodare joined the Belgian league leaders during the January transfer window from French Ligue 2 side Amiens SC as a replacement for Nigerian striker, Paul Onuachu, who departed for Southampton in the English Premier League.
He scored on his debut against Gent and grabbed his first assist for the side against Mechelen.
Onuachu’s exit impacted Genk, who have only won two of their last five league games since the close of the January transfer window and could have seen their comfortable league lead slip but for inconsistencies from the chasing pack.
Tolu’s injury could derail Genk’s title bid and cut their 10-point lead at the top of the Belgian Pro League if he is sidelined for an extended period of time.
