Kelechi Iheanacho’s fortuitous second-half strike broke the resistance of League Two Walsall and sent Leicester into the FA Cup fifth round, Sunday PUNCH reports.
The Nigerian struck his 17th goal in 23 FA Cup appearances – the most by any player since Iheanacho made his debut in the competition in 2016 from the edge of the box which deflected off Brandon Comley and looped over Saddlers goalkeeper Owen Evans in the 68th minute five minutes after replacing Patson Daka.
It resulted in the Foxes’ second successive 1-0 win against League Two opposition in the FA Cup this season with the Nigerian forward fast becoming an FA Cup specialist as scored the winner on both occasions.
Leicester City coach, Brendan Rodgers, is hoping Iheanacho can repeat the trick by helping his side reach Wembley and stay in the Premier League.
“Last time he did this, we won the FA Cup, so hopefully it’s an omen,” said Rodgers.
“There have been a couple of things off the field for him (Iheanacho) that we have had to manage but he has been fine.
Rodgers also promised that the 25-year-old will get more game time now in the absence of injured Jamie Vardy and Daka who is desperately out of form.
“He will get more game time with Jamie Vardy out for a few weeks,” Rodgers continued.
“He made a big impact and some players have that ability coming off the bench. When gets his chances he scores. He has made a great impact in the competition since I’ve been here.
