Liverpool’s players were pictured in high spirits in Dubai as their mid-season training camp continues, with the likes of Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson being put through their paces in their warm-weather camp.
Six members of the first-team squad are still in Qatar – with Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Fabinho and Ibrahima Konate all preparing for quarter-final ties with Netherlands, England, Brazil and France.
But players who were not involved in the World Cup begun their preparations for the Premier League’s return by jetting off to Dubai – with Darwin Nunez is expected to join up with the remainder of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool squad next week, after Uruguay’s group stage exit.
Klopp has been overseeing training in the United Arab Emirates, with the Reds conducting a 12-day camp in Dubai ahead of the club season resuming later this month.
Roberto Firmino was also pictured being put through his paces.
Firmino would have hoped to have been with Brazil’s squad in Qatar, as the five time champions prepare for a quarter-final against Croatia – but was left out despite coach Tite naming nine forwards in his group.
The 31-year-old admitted his heartbreak on missing out on his dream of featuring at at the World Cup in Qatar, after being a high-profile omission.
Thiago and Joe Gomez were among the Liverpool players to have had aspirations of featuring for their nations, but were overlooked for Spain and England’s squads respectively.
Liverpool will hope to benefit as the club seeks to recover from an under-par start to the season, with the trio among those training with the club during the World Cup break.
The Reds entered the break in sixth place in the Premier League with 22 points from 14 games – 15 points behind top-of-the-table Arsenal on 37.
Liverpool also only qualified in second from their Champions League group, leading to a high-profile last-16 tie against Real Madrid, a repeat of last year’s final.
Klopp’s side will return to domestic action in the Carabao Cup, in a mouth-watering tie against a Manchester City at the Etihad on December 22.
Preparations for the season’s resumption will step up on Sunday when Liverpool face Italian champions AC Milan in the first of their two friendly matches as part of the Dubai Super Cup.
Liverpool will also face Lyon on December 16.
The Ligue 1 side were beaten 3-0 by Premier League leaders Arsenal yesterday as the event began.
