Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, is currently at the ongoing Qatar 2022 World Cup to monitor teams, particularly African sides, in a bid to analyse their style of play, The PUNCH reports.

Peseiro, 62, who was appointed in May as Eagles coach after the team failed to qualify for the Mundial, signed a one-year performance-based contract with the Nigerian Football Federation on a reported $70,000 monthly salary.

He has been in Qatar since the start of the round of 16 and will stay till the day after the tournament, it was learnt.

According to a statement from Peseiro’s press office, the Portuguese coach is at the tournament on his bill but his trip was facilitated by the federation.

The statement added that the NFF also got tickets for the semi-finals, third and fourth-place and the final matches for Peseiro to attend, it was also gathered.

“Mister Peseiro is in Qatar, to work,” the media statement made available to The PUNCH read.

“He decided this by his own initiative and through his own means to attend all the games of the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the World Cup.

“The goal is to see, analyse, observe, identify the best practices of the various teams in the competition, to draw conclusions about what the teams do in the game, whether in the different ways of working, of training, (and) also with special attention to the African teams of course.

“He has been in Qatar since December 2 and will stay until the day after the final.

“Although the decision to go to work during the World Cup, the travel, accommodation and most of the tickets, were taken care of by Mister Peseiro, the tickets for the semi-finals, third and fourth place and the final was made possible by the NFF.

“Peseiro’s trip to the World Cup was coordinated with the support of the NFF.”

Since taking charge of the Eagles in May, Peseiro has recorded four defeats in friendlies against Mexico, Ecuador, Algeria and Portugal, while he has recorded two wins over Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe in his first two Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games.
