Ajax defender Hato hails Bassey’s defensive qualities

By Daily Sports Nigeria on December 5, 2022

Sixteen-year-old Ajax youth defender Jorrel Hato has praised the qualities of Nigeria defender Calvin Bassey.

The young defender admires his style of play and is learning from him.

“In the beginning, I was also a bit shy. Feeling comfortable in the group of players comes naturally, Hato told Ajax website.

“In training, I was also next to him as a left-back this week. Then you see how he does things. Defensively he is very strong.”

The Super Eagles defender had a 70th action and was replaced by Hato in Ajax 2-0 win over Blackburn in a pre-season friendly.

Bassey has been criticised severally for his poor performances since arriving from Glasgow Rangers for a club-record €23m.

Despite the criticisms, the 22-year-old defender has been a key figure in Alfred Schreuder’s team and has handed him nineteen starts in all competitions, and scored one goal with two assists.

The youth defender Hato just got promoted to training with the senior team, and he is part of the team’s training camp in Marbella.
