Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa : Towering Strides Unmasked

By Victor Enyinnaya on October 31, 2022

Honestly, writing on a vast personality like Right Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, a man of many parts and vigour could be so tasking  and at the same time so amazing, but all  the same very worthwhile.

Of truth is that he has carved a niche for himself setting the tone and encouraged agenda setting in all he has involved himself in. To sum it all, he has placed legislation on the right perspective or sound footing to say the very least, ensuring that citizens of Lagos State  are given quality legislations that have imparted positively and translated into peaceful co-existence/relationship amongst the diversity Lagos State represents in the country.

As a quality human being, Right Honourable Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa has equally encouraged and ensured that quality legislations are brought to the table too. The citizens have benefited immensely since he assumed the leadership of the State legislative arm of government.  As a Lawyer, he left nobody in doubt to his resounding belief in the rule of law hence the importance of laws being enacted so far are eloquent testimonials.

On a lighter mood, he is an interesting and engaging personality to be with roundly. His jokes are equally infectious and rib cracking too. People very close to the Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa said that he is also kind to a fault as he loves sharing often with the less privileged in our society.

One of them who pleaded that his name be left off print confessed that the Speaker’s many selfless services to his people have been the backbone with which he will ride again back to the Lagos State House of Assembly in the forthcoming election.

According to the anonymous respondent from Agege 1 constituency, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa will be reelected via affirmation like vote. He has done so well, if you like, he has exceeded the bar and so the people are happy with him and roaring to return him.  Mildly put, his towering strides are in the public domain and so, verifiable.

To be honest with you, I have been closely watching him from afar as he resoundingly strides. until I met him first in September 2022 when Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Lagos State Chapter executives led by Olatutu Oladunni included me, a veteran, to be among the delegates who paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable  Speaker of the flagship State Legislative House in the country, Lagos State House of Assembly. I was caught pants down seeing his exceptional considerateness; his disarmingly unassuming nature got me into further admitting that learning is truly a continuous process.

In short, Right Honourable Mudashiru Obasa’s comportment instantly sent me rightly into my thinking corner and my conclusion thus there is if this kind of compassionate,  vibrant personality is still around our landscape in time like this then there is still a light at the end of the tunnel.

The way and manner he received us and easily mixed up perfectly with us as we deliberated along in an interactive session simply gave him out as a servant leader par excellence, further as a well breed and very well behaved public servant who relates perfectly with his subjects like no other. Incidentally, as an incurable optimist, In short, I believe vehemently in the famous saying that first impression matters.

Let me unequivocally say here I became his fan on instant observation.  I believe he does not pretend to be who he is not. Also he calls a spade by its name. Above all, he does not pretend that he is being carried along when actually he is not. He says what is in his mind no matter/without caring a hoot whose ox is gored. It can be safe to say that Right Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly can be likened to a titanic Icon of the first order in scheme of law making in Lagos State.

The important aspect that held me spell bond while in interactive session with him was that he does not carry airs around himself. As an experienced law maker, his inputs were always instructive and tailored too. He has dripping aura of calmness little wonder therefore he has carried his colleagues along perfectly thus far which has led to the current smooth working relationship between the executive and the legislative arms of governments in the State.

If you say he is an all rounder, you may not be far from being right as despite his obvious busy schedules, he finds time to keep fit and even play football and to that effect, his love for youths and young person’s empowerment remain so close to his heart and it is one of his numerous pet projects which he does not joke with.

That aspect has sharply brought him so close to these very important groups of people in his immediate Agege l constituency and Lagos State at large.  It is instructive to note that he is a goal getter.

For instance, the yearly football tournament he sponsors until the outbreak of the deadly COVID 19 pandemic when the football championship took a temporary break. It remained one competition that was strictly for the upliftment of the youths to exhibit their God given talents for the good of the development of the round leather which was excellently and meticulously organized.

The Right Honourable Mudashiru Obasa’s football summit for youths and young ones in Agege was exemplary and as he assured Lagos State Chapter of SWAN that visited him in September in his Ikeja office that the competition will bounce back decisively sooner than later because of the kind of rave the championship has garnered thus far since inception.

The Speaker told SWAN executives that the competition was one of his humble and pet contributions to the growth of Nigerian youths through football. It has helped also in no smaller measure to keep the youths off crime and other vices in the society.

He restated that the competition will be back because of its wide acceptability amongst the youths in the area. He is one for the real and he is seeking re-election of his people in Agege l constituency back to the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2023.

For the records, Right Honourable Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa is well grounded educationally and as a legislature he is experienced too. He is a Lawyer and has under gone many courses abroad and at home. It is no surprise his high performance stance as leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
