Akwa United begins three weeks end-of- season break

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 10, 2022

Following their early exit from the 2022 Aiteo Cup competition on Sunday in Enugu, Chairman of Akwa United, Elder Paul Bassey, has approved a three-week end-of-season break for players and officials of the team starting from today to September 3, 2022.

In a statement signed by club’s Media Officer, Mfon Patrick, in Uyo, yesterday, training for the new season will begin on September 5, 2022.

Akwa United was unexpectedly knocked out of the Aiteo Cup, 1-2, in the round of 16 by Kogi United.
Bassey commended players and officials of the club for their efforts and genuine contributions to the fortunes of the club, charging the players to behave professionally and maintain unalloyed physical, mental and spiritual discipline during the break period.

“The just concluded football season was a very tough and tedious one for us at Akwa United, judging by the fact that it was our worst finish in the NPFL in the last six seasons.

“Having come to the end of what could best be described as a difficult season, we really need to go on a break, visit our families and friends and make out time to rest after such a marathon season.

“As you enjoy your holiday, remember to act professionally in all you do, stay away from activities that will affect your fitness level, remain focused and be disciplined,” he said.

He emphasised that the resumption date of September 3 is non-negotiable and urged the players and officials to adhere strictly to the directive.
