Former Super Eagles Chief Coach Christian Chukwu after taking critical look at the pending Ghana/Nigeria Qatar 2022 World Cup play-off said it still holds the trappings of traditional setting of a game that has involved both countries way back and called on the Nigerian team from the technical crew to the players brace up decisively as nothing would change from what has long obtained.
The former Captain of the national team added in an exclusive telephone conversation that the entire team must be focused and determined to justify the present unparallel solid support from NFF high command led by Amaju Pinnick and the Sports Minister Sunday Dare that have rallied round to provide confidence, logistics, advocacy and sundry all in the bid to give the players and crew every sense of belonging and responsibility to surmount the Ghana Black Stars challenge on our way to pick the ticket to the next World Cup summit in November in United Arab Emirates.
Chukwu maintained if the indices towards preparations for the two legged encounter is anything to rely upon, then there will be nothing that would distract the boys and crew from posting a five star performance though Ghana is not leaving anything for chance too towards this all important game of wits and brawns.
“The truth about Ghana/Nigeria meets have been tense and it has been traditional and so this one coming up later in the Month will not be an exception. The point here borders there must be concentration in every sense of the word. The game needs full vigilance, precision, killer strategies that would thoroughly and effectively counter the Ghanaian’s whatever match plan,” Chukwu counseled.
The one time rugged central defence ace pointed out Austin Eguaveon as an experienced coach and former player that had encounters against Ghana during his active days knew what is at stake and as such would be equal to the task to squeeze water out of this stone between Nigeria’s presence in Qatar World Cup later in the year. “I have not hidden my confidence in Austin Eguaveon’s ability as a tactician.
He believes that Eguaveon will get it right with his crew. He also added tha the efforts by the NFF and Sports Ministry so far remain exemplary and urged tha players to put in their all against starting from the Accra first leg.
He further observed that the caliber of players invited in for encounter are good enough to withstand any side and prayed that the team would be injury free and players in super form also.
