The Confederation Of African Football (CAF) has released the list of match referees for the forth-coming AFCON scheduled for Cameroon in January next year.
Strikingly, there’s no Nigerian referee in the list. Nigeria, being a football powerhouse faces again the ignominy of seeing its referees overlooked for major football competitions.
A former Nigeria national Under-17 media officer Samuel Adepoju Tobi took to Facebook on Tuesday to decry the exclusion of Nigeria referees thus: “Burundi, Seychelles, Mauritius & Botswana will have a Centre Referee at the 2021 AFCON. Nigeria will have only one referee, which is an Assistant Referee, Samuel Pwadutakam. Some of the FIFA badge referees in Nigeria can’t even pass their fitness test. This is shameful.”
