Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho will be aiming to score his 10th Carabao Cup career goal when Leicester City host Brighton Hove Albion on Wednesday (today) in a fourth-round clash.
The game will also be Iheanacho’s 17th in the competition since he made his debut in 2015, when he came on for Wilfred Bony in the 71st minute of the Citizen’s 4-1 win over Hull for his debut appearance.
Iheanacho, who has three goals in 13 games for the Foxes this season, was on target in the Foxes 2-1 win over Millwall in the fifth round.
The striker is relishing the chance to avenge Leicester’s 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton on September 19 at the Amex Stadium.
“This is a fantastic competition,” Iheanacho told LCTV.
“Hopefully we’ll get a chance to win games and get through and get to the end, but it will be a tough one also. Fingers crossed, we’re looking forward to the games.
“Hopefully we won’t get a cold night against Brighton again! It’ll be a good game. We’re looking forward to it.
“They’re really good this season. Hopefully, we’ll give them a game at the King Power Stadium and we’ll get through.”
Meanwhile, Leicester City coach, Brendan Rodgers, has promised to change his team for the last-16 tie at home to Brighton.
The gaffer has been consistent in his selection over the last three outings – wins over Manchester United, Spartak Moscow and Brentford – with nine players appearing in all of those fixtures.
Iheanacho is one of the players who have featured in those games.
“There’s no doubt (we will make changes),” Rodgers said.
“We can’t use the same players all the time, so we’ll definitely make changes, but it doesn’t take away the fact we want to win the game.
“We’ll be bringing good players into the game. We’ll recover now, do some work and some preparation, and then look to get to the quarter-finals.”
One player expected to be involved is Ademola Lookman, who was an unused substitute against United, Spartak and Brentford.
Iheanacho’s compatriot at Brentford, Frank Onyeka, will be aiming to make his third appearance in the competition, as well as seeking his first official goal at the club when the Bees face Stoke City at the Bet365 stadium.
He has made 10 appearances in all competitions since he joined in the summer. (The PUNCH)
