AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli insists that he is not concerned by Franck Kessie’s contract situation at the Italian club.
The 24-year-old Kessie is a sought-after player, having enjoyed a superb campaign with the Rossoneri in 2020-21.
His current deal with Milan will expire in June 2022 and there are concerns that he could leave the club as a free agent in less than 12 months – something Milan have recent bitter experience of, having watched key figures Hakan Calhanoglu and Gianluigi Donnarumma depart for free to Internazionale and Paris Saint-Germain respectively this off-season.
Negotiations for a new deal for the Ivorian midfielder are on hold while he represents the Elephants at the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Yet Pioli has faith that Kessie is happy with Milan and will extend his stay with the club as soon as all parties reach an agreement.
“He is a player who has grown along with many of his teammates,” the manager is quoted by Sempreinter.
“He is very strong and has given a lot to his team. We know how much it matters to this team. I spoke to him, he rested up on vacation, got married, and is now at the Olympics.
“He is calm and motivated, he will come back as strong as before. I’m not dealing with his renewal but I know that he is happy here with us.”
Kessie will look to lead Ivory Coast to strong performances in Japan, as they face Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Germany on July 22, 25 and 28 respectively. (Tribal Football)
