Amapakabo ready to lead Eagles

By Daily Sports on January 1, 1970

A member of Nigeria’s three-match consortium of coaches, Imama Amapakabo is looking forward to the Super Eagles’ next two international matches against Mali and Luxembourg.

The three-time African champions take on Mali’s Les Aiglons in France on May 27 before flying to Luxembourg to take on that country’s National Team on June 1.

Some fans of the Super Eagles have questioned the quality of the opposition ahead of both games but Amapakabo believes the fixtures will represent good tests for Nigeria’s senior national football team.

“The game against Mali is our first game and as coaches (Salisu Yusuf and Kennedy Boboye), we will want to win.

“Also, Mali is better placed than Nigeria in the latest FIFA rankings.

“Luxembourg is also not a bad national team to play against.

“Wins in those two matches will give the Super Eagles a lot of self-belief.

“Our ego as a national team was deflated when we failed to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and wins in these games will help us get that belief again,” Amapakabo told supersport.com.
