ALEX IWOBI
Everton’s defeats by Southampton and Newcastle United have brought the Toffees back down to earth following their impressive start to the campaign.
Iwobi was dropped to the bench for the game at St James’ Park, and it remains to be seen if the attacking midfielder will return to Carlo Ancelotti’s XI for the visit of volatile Manchester United.
The Red Devils’ 1-0 defeat by Arsenal was followed up by a humiliating loss at the hands of Champions League debutants Istanbul Basaksehir, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scratching his head over his side’s attitude and application.
Iwobi and his teammates would welcome the doubts that have crept into the camp of the visitors, although the same could be said for the Merseyside outfit, too, as they look to prevent a third Premier League defeat on the spin.
AINA & LOOKMAN
After a fairly poor start and subsequent improvement in performances, it was only a matter of time before Fulham got their first Premier League win since regaining promotion...and it came on Monday in a 2-0 success over winless West Bromwich Albion.
Ola Aina’s cracking effort saw him score his first Prem goal and he’s expected to keep his place in the side when the West London side make a short trip to city rivals West Ham United.
Ademola Lookman ought to keep his left-wing berth as well against the Hammers who probably deserved something in last week’s 2-1 defeat at Liverpool.
West Ham may be favourites to return to winning ways but the Cottagers could spring a surprise after finally getting the monkey off their back last time out.
SAMUEL CHUKWUEZE
The Villarreal winger ended an extended run without scoring in La Liga for the Yellow Submarine with his strike in a 2-0 win over Real Valladolid.
It was Chukwueze’s first top flight goal since November 2019, a run he wouldn’t want to repeat going forward.
Success on Monday took Villarreal to third spot and the wide attacker ought to play in some capacity when Unai Emery’s side travel to Getafe on Sunday.
VICTOR OSIMHEN
Napoli’s record signing has had a tough couple of weeks in front of goal, with last week’s 2-0 home loss by Sassuolo emphasising the need to rediscover his scoring form at Lille.
Osimhen faces a Bologna side with goals in them but with a tendency to be leaky in defence as well as he looks to add to his sole Serie A strike.
With the Azzurri winless in their last three games against the side from Emilia-Romagna, Gennaro Gattuso’s team mustn’t take chances despite the hosts’ 13th-place position in the table.
ANTHONY NWAKAEME
Despite being involved in all three Trabzonspor goals last week, Nwakaeme’s efforts weren’t rewarded as Black Sea Storm lost 4-3 to Kasimpasa.
The inside forward ought to keep his place in the team for their visit to Alanyaspor, as Eddie Newton’s troops seek to arrest a worrying run that’s seen them currently stuck in the bottom four.
Nwakaeme leads the way with league goal contributions so far with four, and he’ll have to deliver yet again against the side in second spot going into gameweek eight. (Goal)
