Arteta: Under pressure Aubameyang Got His Reward

By Daily sports on November 3, 2020

Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had added pressure against Manchester United according to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

The Arsenal captain ended his run of five English Premier League games without a goal by scoring the winner against United on Sunday evening.

The 1-0 win helped the Gunners secure their first league win at United’s iconic home ground, Old Trafford since 2006.

Aubameyang scored from the spot-kick after Arsenal were awarded a second-half penalty.

Arteta feels that the former Borussia Dortmund marksman got his reward for working hard for the team.

“He probably had added pressure because he know how crucial it was for us to win today and how important that moment was,” Arteta told the club’s official website.

“But I think he took it really well and I’m really happy for him because he might not have been scoring.

“But he’s working really hard and contributing to the team. He’s doing every other thing and today he got his reward.”

The 31-year-old player has now netted four goals in nine matches across all competitions for the Gunners this season.

Aubameyang made his debut for the Gabon national team in 2009 at age 19, and he ranks their all-time top goalscorer, having registered 25 goals in 63 games.

He was named African Footballer of the Year in 2015 becoming the first Gabonese player to win the award, and the second European-born player after Frédéric Kanouté. (African Football)
