William Troost-Ekong has revealed that Manchester United’s Odion Ighalo helped convince him to join Watford.
The Nigeria international completed a move to Vicarage Road earlier this week. He has signed a five-year contract with the Hornets and could make his Championship debut away to Reading on Saturday.
Ighalo spent three successful years at Watford and Troost-Ekong consulted the former Super Eagles forward before making the move.
“Ighalo used to be my roommate. I spoke to Odion last week. He only had good things to say about the club. He’s a great guy, a fantastic player and like a big brother for me,” Troost-Ekong is quoted as saying by the club.
Troost-Ekong joined Watford from Serie A club Udinese where he played 66 times. He also previously spent time in Turkey, the Netherlands, Belgium and Norway.
Born in Haarlem, the defender played youth football for the Netherlands before switching his allegiance to Nigeria. He made his Super Eagles debut in 2015 and has since won 42 caps for the West African nation.
“I’ve had some amazing experiences, particularly getting a medal at the Olympics. But I’m not there yet, the best is still to come and I want to try and win the Championship and then play in the Premier League with Watford,” Troost-Ekong added. (African Football)
