Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has held crunch talks with Antoine Griezmann about his place in this season's plans.

L'Equipe says Koeman has assured Griezmann he sees a senior role for the Frenchman and wants him to become a locker room leader.

With Luis Suarez told to leave and Lionel Messi submitting a transfer request, Koeman informed Griezmann he plans to replicate the role he had at Atletico Madrid with Barca.

For his part, Griezmann was delighted with the reassuring chat and excited about the coming season.

The attacker's confidence had hit rock bottom last season as he struggled for form and to connect with both Suarez and Messi - on and off the pitch.

Koeman is also working behind the scenes for Philippe Coutinho to surrender his No7 shirt to Griezmann for the new campaign. (Tribal Football)
