English Premier League side Brighton & Hove have explained why they sold Nigerian star Leon Balogun.
The towering central defender recently completed a permanent transfer to English Championship club Wigan Athletic.
Balogun had joined Wigan on a short-term loan deal from Brighton last January.
Brighton manager Graham Potter said it was time for the 31-year-old player to leave the club on a permanent deal after struggling for game time.
“Leon has always been extremely professional and good to work with during my time at the club, but he was finding it hard to get the game time he would have liked,” Potter told the club’s official website.
“So the loan move to Wigan seemed to be a good move for everyone involved, and he has made a really positive impact there.
“We would like to thank him for his contribution over the last couple of years and we wish him all the best for the next chapter of his career.”
Balogun made only eight appearances in the Premier League and netted once for Brighton after joining the club from German Bundesliga side Mainz 05 in 2018.
He has played six matches in the Championship for Wigan thus far this season. (African Football)
