Enugu Rangers have returned to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) standings.
The Flying Antelopes turned on the style to beat Akwa United 3-0 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday courtesy of goals either side of the break.
Bobby Clement opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with Tope Olusesi adding a second in the 52nd minute.
Man-of-the-match Chisom Egbuchulam rounded off the scoring in the 73rd minute as the Enugu-based club handed down a stern warning to the rest of the field.
Rangers have now amassed 14 points from seven league matches this season.
MFM FC dropped one place on the log to second after a 0-1 loss to Heartland in Owerri.
Fortune Omoniwari’s strike just after the half hour sealed the win for the Naze Millionaires and condemned the high-flying MFM to only their second defeat of the season.
Mubarak Umar scored the winner 21 minutes from time as Wikki Tourists subdued Niger Tornadoes 2-1 in Bauchi.
Okereke Maduabuchi gave FC Ifeanyiubah great hope for an away win when he netted inside the first 10 minutes of his side’s fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors.
The hosts, however, battled back to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Ibrahim Mustapha and Agoha Otakho, who converted a 75th-minute penalty.
At the Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos, Tony Okpotu continued to underline his credentials as one of the league’s best marksmen with a well-taken goal to give Lobi Stars the lead in their confrontation with Plateau United.
Two quick-fire goals from Nuhu Julius and Sunday Ingbede however turned the game on its head as the hosts rallied to win 2-1.
Late drama decided the contest between Ikorodu United and Giwa FC at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos.
David Sunday put the visitors in front in the fifth minute but Ifegwu Ojukwu levelled matters 12 minutes later.
It seemed like the two sides would settle for a share of the spoils until two minutes from time when Amos Gyang popped up to apply the finishing touch to an enthralling team move which condemned the hosts to a morale-shattering defeat. © supersport.com
