MFM on fire again, beat El-Kanemi to go top of NPFL table

By Adeyinka Akintunde, Lagos on March 14, 2016

Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) Football Club of Lagos on Sunday returned to winning ways in spectacular fashion, beating visiting El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 3-1 at the Agege Stadium. Goals from Stephen Odey, Julius Emiloju, and Emmanuel Onuwa and a consolatory goal from El-Kanemi’s Stephen Daniel were enough to put MFM at the top of the NPFL table.

MFM had the upper hand, right from kickoff, having eyes on goal. Onuwa was the playmaker – as he has always been in all MFM FC games.

In 26 minutes, Stephen Odey put the hosts in front after a run with the ball at the right side of the field.  He later got off injured after six minutes, replaced by Henry Abara.

All efforts by El-Kanemi to get an equaliser in first half failed.

Just as the second half began, Julius Emiloju scored for MFM on 47 minutes. He had received an assist from Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, took a run and scored.

El-Kanemi pulled one back through Japhet Daniel on 65 minutes after converting a free-kick, but another individual display from Onuwa got him his first goal of this season, ten minutes later.

In other centres, Lobi Stars got a 2-2 draw with Kano Pillars, with Pillars losing their 2-1 lead while Lagos based Ikorodu United fell 4-1 to Ifeanyi Ubah, Niger Tornadoes also won 3-2 at home against Rivers United.
