Mercurial midfielder Rabiu Ali was the hero of Kano Pillars on Sunday in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Week 5 game in Kano when they edged past 10-man Akwa United 3-2.
Pillars are now second behind Enugu Rangers in the standings with 10 points from five games.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 10th minute through Michael Ibe Okoro, who capitalised on a Pillars defensive error.
However, Rabiu Ali equalised for the home team four minutes later.
The experienced midfielder then gave Pillars the lead for the first time in the game in the 26th minute to complete a brace.
Former Pillars forward Ubong Ekpai drew Akwa level in the 44th minute to end the first half 2-2, before Rabiu Ali sealed the victory in the 47th minute to complete the second treble of the season after Wasiu Jimoh’s hat-trick for 3SC against MFM in Ibadan.
Ekpai will then be sent off after a second booking in the 67th minute.
This was Akwa United’s first loss in the new league season. (mtnfootball.com)
