The Chairman, Vemard Africa FC, Nanka, Mr. Chidi Okonkwo, on Tuesday announced that 60 percent of the club’s equity will be reserved for talented players of Anambra State descent.
He explained that the goal is to discover, nurture and expose budding football talents from the state to both national and international opportunities.
Okonkwo, who addressed journalists at the Nanka base of the club, said that the club would feature in the 2020/2021 Nigerian national league season.
According to him, Vernard FC has strong affiliation with Athletico Madrid of Spain, as well as Monaco and Lille of France.
He said: “It is our common project and I want to say that 60 per cent of the space will be filled by talented Anambra footballers.
“We have record of success in Enugu since our four years of existence and it is our target to surpass those records here in Anambra.”
Okonkwo further said that the four-year-old club will be officially unveiled during a novelty match with Enyimba International FC of Aba at NEROS Stadium Nanka today, Friday, February 14, 2020.
He disclosed that the event would be graced by former Super Eagles players Taribo West and Victor Ikpeba, among other international soccer stars and affiliates of the club, partners and fans.
Coach of the club, Mr. Austin Chinwendu, said that selection of players for the club would be based on merit, adding that Vermard club has come to be.
He called for maximum support from the football community in the state,
