Arteta: Aubameyang’s Absence Massive Blow

By Daily Sports on January 14, 2020

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says it will be difficult for the team to cope without their captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gabonese striker was sent off during the Gunners’ 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in an English Premier League match over the weekend.

Aubameyang netted for Arsenal, but Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew levelled the scores for the hosts.

The former English champions have now lost Aubameyang for the next three games.

“That’s a massive blow. We know how important Auba is for the team. Maybe we’re going to lose him for a couple of games,” Arteta told the club’s official website.

The retired Spanish midfielder also discussed Aubameyang’s dangerous tackle on Palace star Max Meyer.

“I just watched it and it looked nasty, to be fair. Knowing Auba, there’s no intention to make such a tackle,” he added.

“Hopefully he hasn’t been injured and we are sorry for that. The decision was made and we have to accept it.”

Aubameyang has been Arsenal’s main source of goals in the league this season having hit the back of the net 14 times in 22 appearances. (African Football)
