Henry: ‘I Can’t Tell Aubameyang To Stay When I Left’

By Daily Sports on May 8, 2020

Arsenal legend and record goalscorer Thierry Henry says it would be unfair for him to tell Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to remain at Emirates Stadium if he himself left the North London club.

Henry, who joined Barcelona in 2007 following eight years at Arsenal, would like the Gunners captain to remain at the club but insists the Gabon international must make the decision on his own.

Aubameyang has been heavily linked with a move away from the North London club as he approaches the final year of his contract. Arsenal could be forced to sell their talisman in coming months or risk losing him for free at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Henry told Sky Sports News: “Everybody will do whatever they have to do. How am I going to say to someone to stay when I left? Things happen but that doesn’t kill the love that you have for a place.

“As an Arsenal fan you want him to stay, but as a football player he will assess the situation with his family, with his dad, and see what is the best for them.

“If you’re an Arsenal man then you don’t want him to leave, but the guy has a career and I don’t know what’s in his head.

“All I know is that we are definitely going to miss his goals if he does leave. He does score goals and if you take the goals of Aubameyang away, it’s a tough one,” the Frenchman concluded.

Aubameyang, 30, has scored 20 goals in 32 matches across all competitions this season and has been prolific throughout his Arsenal career since joining the club from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018. In total, Aubameyang has scored 61 goals in 97 games for the club. (Sky Sports)
