FIFA’s former secretary general Jerome Valcke was banned from football for 12 years on Friday, the sport’s world governing body said.
The decision by FIFA’s independent ethics committee came after allegations of misconduct related to World Cup ticket sales, which led to an investigation that uncovered other instances of misconduct by Valcke.
In a statement, FIFA said the inquiry found “undue advantage” had been gained by a sports marketing company in selling World Cup tickets.
The statement added: “The investigation against Valcke was conducted... following allegations of potential misconduct related to the sale of tickets for FIFA World Cups.”
“During the course of the investigations, several other acts of potential misconduct arose, in particular abuse of the FIFA travel expenses policies and regulations, cases involving related-parties issues and the sale of TV and other media rights, and the destruction of evidence.”
Valcke was appointed secretary general by then FIFA President Sepp Blatter in 2007 and was forced to step down last September following the allegations. His dismissal was confirmed last month.
The French football administrator, 55, was fined 100,000 Swiss francs ($102,400) in addition to the ban.
In December last year, Blatter and UEFA head Michel Platini were suspended for eight years from football-related activities following an investigation that found they had abused their positions.
