Warri Wolves hope to get off to a winning start on their CAF Champions League debut on Sunday at home.
‘The Seasiders’, as they are called, will battle Sao Tome and Principle champions Club Sporting Praia Cruz.
Warri Wolves with new management and a new chief coach in Sam Okpodu did not do well at the just-ended Super 4, which was put together by the League Management Company (LMC).
The team lost some key players like skipper Azubuike Egwuekwe, Gbolahan Salami, Ichul Lordson and Ogenekharo Etebo, but signed goalkeeper Dele Ajiboye, who was outstanding at the Super 4, Mackson Ojobo and Bernard Okorowanta.
Solomon Okpako and Osanga King have also joined forces with Wolves after stints overseas.
The team must get a winning combination by the time they play the São Tomé club.
This will be Wolves CAF Champions League debut, but they have played in the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Cup, where they have never gone beyond the second round.
The club boss Moses Etu said he is optimistic the team will rise to the latest challenge.
“My target is to surpass previous records by God’s Grace. Try to woo fans back to the stadium,” Etu said. (mtnfootball.com)
