It was a day of celebration when CSED (Community Sport and Educational Development) Initiative recently took its sports-for-change school run to Edo Boys High School in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
During the event, CSED Trustee Edema Fuludu presented 210 general interest books meant for the school library to the Principal, Mr Richard Igbinadolor.
The school’s Games Masters Mr Osayuwa Osas Jerome and Mr Omoregie were among other teaching staff and students that warmly welcomed CSED team. Some of the other items donated to the school are: eight badminton rackets, one badminton net, one set of badminton shuttlecock, four scrabble boards, four Chess boards and two handball balls.
In addition, CSED also donated a thousand copies of drug awareness brochures recently received from one of its supporters, Foundation for a Drug Free World.
Five coaches from the Edo State Sports Commission attended the event and taught some of the enthusiastic students the basic of the games of badminton, chess, scrabble, handball martial arts (kung fu).
Addressing the students, Edema Fuludu urged them to continue to work hard in the classroom and in their respective sports.
The school Principal expressed his appreciation for the encouragement that CSED Trustees have given to students of the school.
This is the second time CSED is holding a sports/educational event at Edo Boys High School, which is one of the two Edusport Hubs in Edo State that CSED has identified and has a working relationship with.
CSED is currently working on identifying and developing more Edusport Hubs in the Niger Delta area. Given that the year 2020 is a major sporting year, the Trustees of CSED intend to get more girls involved in sports through a “GESI (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion) approach” to grassroots sports development.
As a result, providing girls access to sports like netball, table tennis, badminton and football would be their major target in 2020.
