The Board of Ekiti State Football Association has announced the birth of a new football event christened JKF Youth Cup, after the State Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, which is to feature boys and girls in the state not older than 15 years.
According to the Ekiti FA chairman, Bayo Olanlege, the competition has received the official endorsement and support of the State Governor for the competition.
“We are happy to say that the football competition has received the official endorsement and support of the State Governor, who has magnanimously given the competition his tacit support.
“That support is huge and would certainly encourage our selfless, but modest efforts towards making football in Ekiti State greater,” the resourceful football administrator remarked.
Also speaking, the JKF Youth Cup Committee Chairman, Mr. Kolawole Owoseni, disclosed that everything is in place to ensure that the planned tournament is successful.
He said: “We have received the Governor’s support towards a successful tournament.
“We’re also enjoying a robust collaboration with the EKSHA, ALGON, SUBEB and MDAs, who are willing to commit resources to the success of the tournament.
“His Excellency, Governor John Kayode Fayemi, has mandated all necessary organs to work for the success of this tournament, which is one of the cardinal objectives of his administration to empower the youths of the state and help them build a career.”
Equally commenting on the competition, Hon. Joseph Olatunji, Chairman, Committee on Youth and Sports, Ekiti State House of Assembly, said: “We’re working with the State Government, particularly, the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“We shall commit financial resources for the success of the competition.”
Prof. Adio Afolayan, the State Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, reaffirmed the commitment of all the 16 local government areas in the state to play active roles in the competition.
“Yes, we are collaborating with the organisers. And I can assure you that all the 16 local government areas in this state will fully exercise their duties and be part of the competition,” he said.
