The 2019 edition of the Benson Idahosa University Media Cup kicks off on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 and a thrilling opener is anticipated as Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) file out against Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS).

The football competition, in its second year, is expected to have seven media houses as participants with defending champions NTA returning once again as favourites.

Tagged the “Idahosa Legacy Football Competition”, the organisers last week released the official list of participating teams and the corresponding fixtures which show that the Benson Idahosa University Sports Complex will be the venue for all the matches.

According to Newton Fred Erhunmwunse, Chairman Technical and Tournament Co-ordinator, Group A comprises NTA, EBS and Speed FM while Group B is made up of last year’s runner up, KU FM, Vibes FM, Bronze FM and new entrant IWO Wonders.

President of Benson Idahosa University, Bishop Feb Idahosa, alongside his wife, Rev Laurie Idahosa, is expected to declare the tournament open while Prof Sam Guobadia, the Vice Chancellor of the same institution, is the Chief Host.

The Chairman Organizing Committee for the Competition, Mr Vinton Itoya Okoedo, revealed that other than the best player, highest goal scorer and the best behaved team awards, the prize money for the overall winner is N150,000, N75,000 for the second placed team while the third place winners go home with N50,000.

The competition runs from October 29 - November 14.
