Rolly FC of Warri North Local Government Area are through to the second round of the ongoing Bet9ja Royal Cup competition holding in Delta State courtesy of a 1-0 win against Visionaries FC of Aniocha. The match was played at the Agbor Township Stadium on Tuesday.
In a hotly-contested and tension soaked match as the two teams battled for a qualifying spot in Group B, Precious Ediae’s solitary strike for Rolly FC in the 10th minute was the only thing that separated both sides.
The game got off to a fierce start as both teams went for the jugular in a thrilling end to end affair.
A quick counter attack break found Ediae finely position like a true fox-in-the-box to hammer home a shot off a cross from the right flank.
Only a minute later and Rolly found themselves down to10 men after striker Kelechi Daniel was shown a red card for violent behaviour.
The center referee had awarded a free kick to Visionaries just in front of their 18-yard box but Daniel held on to the ball and a Visionaries defender tried to get it off his grip. He wasn’t having it and slapped the defender right in front of the referee who had no other option but to dish out a straight red.
Visionaries mounted a spell of pressure afterwards as the one man disadvantage began to tell on Rolly.
However in Ediae Rolly had a very useful attacking outlet as the imposing 6ft 1' striker displayed a combination of exceptional hold-up play, strong running and intelligent spatial awareness to threaten Visionaries.
Ediae, nicknamed Zlatan after his idol and Swedish football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, deservedly won the Man-of-the-Match award after the game.
He was in superb form for BJ Foundation FC in the Edo FA Cup and the Bet9ja Super Agents Cup (which BJ Foundation won) earlier this year, scoring all kinds of beautiful goals for fun and winning the admiration of fans who have seen the 18-year-old become one of the hottest properties in youth football today.
Rolly introduced Solomon Osaghae, who was surprisingly not in the starting line-up for the game after his MVP performance in Dolly’s opening Group B match, in the second half and the midfielder performed well to help Rolly weather the Visionaries storm to qualify for the quarter final of the Bet9ja Royal Cup which enters its second round on Saturday morning across Delta State.
