Injured Usman puts Edwards’ trilogy in doubt

By Daily Sports Nigeria on January 3, 2023

Former welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, has an injury that looks to put the UFC 286 main event trilogy bout between him and Leon Edwards in doubt.

After a last minute head kick led to one of the most shocking upsets of the year and saw Edwards emerge as the new welterweight king, with Usman knocked out, it did not take long for the UFC to book a third fight between both fighters. The bout is expected to headline UFC 286 in England, with the hope being for the champ to defend his belt in front of a hometown crowd at Wembley.

As it turned out, this proposed UFC 286 main event between Edwards and Usman may not happen as scheduled after all.

In spite of the former champ’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, denying rumours that Usman was suffering lingering effects from a hand injury and may be in need of surgery, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ was spotted recently, wearing a wrist brace.

Usman was in attendance at African event, “Face Off” and when he addressed the crowd, the former champ was wearing a brace on his wrist, showing the lingering effects from a hand injury, which has been a persistent problem that even resulted in surgery for Usman last February.
