Olori Babes of Warri A Point Away From NWPL

By Obaseki Anthony on October 10, 2019

Olori Babes FC of Warri’s fairy tale continued on Wednesday as they recorded yet another victory, beating the more experienced Pelican Stars of Calabar in their second game of the playoffs for the NWPL in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Olori Babes Coach Abayomi Olorunda made one change to the team that beat Moje Queens in their first game as Effiong Mercy was replaced with Joy Ugwu in the starting line-up.

Pelican Stars, who thrashed Police Machine of Uyo 4-1 in their opening game, were unable to contain the determined girls from Warri, who had most of the ball possession in the first 20 minutes.

Olori Babes broke the deadlock in 20th minute when Captain Osaze Enoma scored from a rebound after Ifunanya Ugwu laid a cross inside the 18-yard-box to give the Warri side an advantage before the half time.

Pelican Stars came back stronger in the second half and Olori Babes goalkeeper was forced to make a crucial save to prevent an equaliser.

Olori Babes, who lead the race for the promotion ticket after recording two straight victories, will play Police Machine on Friday, October 11, in their last game of the playoffs and a win or draw with see them gain automatic promotion to the NWPL, thus bringing professional female football back to the oil city of Warri.
