We have not hiked registration fees —Nationwide League

By Daily Sports on January 28, 2016

Nigeria’s Nationwide League One (NLO) Secretariat has dismissed a publication in some online media (Daily Sports not included) that it has increased club registration for the new season from N50,000.00 to 150,000.00.

Executive Secretary of the NLO, Shola Ogunnowo, described the allegation as “mischievous, unfounded and to say the least baseless.” He added that the author of such untrue story should have cross-checked the facts at NLO Secretariat before going to press.

According to him, “There is no single truth in the story because we did not increase the registration fees rather we reduced it from what it was last season.” He said: “Based on what the nation’s economy is facing recently, we decided to review the registration fees downward and not upward. Last season the clubs paid N240,000.00 for registration which includes; insurance, medical, licencing amongst others.”

Continuing, Ogunnowo said in a statement: “But this year, we are only asking the clubs to pay N150,000.00 which includes registration N50,000.00, Insurance N80,000.00, and Medical N20,000.00. So where is the hike in registration fees here?”

He appealed to journalists to verify their stories before going to the press, stating that the doors of the NLO Secretariat are wide open in addition to the NLo website, nigerianationwideleague.com, where people can get facts about the third tier league.

On the issue of sponsorship, Ogunnowo said the NLO is yet to secure any but enjoyed the goodwill of its patron, Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Uba, the proprietor of FC Ifeanyi Uba, towards the end of last season.
