Kwara United were on Friday, September 27, sent out of the 2019 Governor Dapo Abiodun Pre-Season Championship despite playing 4-4 draw against Gateway in their last group game.
It was a feisty encounter in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, as the two teams displayed the stuff they are made of, resulting to an eight-goal thriller.
The Harmony Boys needed a win so as to qualify for the semi-final of the tournament but Gateway proved a hard nut for them to crack.
Gateway took the lead in this encounter before Ebenezer provided a superb pass for Christopher Lolo to restore parity.
The Abeokuta Boys took the lead again before the end of the first half via a powerful free kick which rendered goalkeeper Fabiyi helpless.
Abdulsallam netted a brace plus a late goal from Yobo for Kwara United which saved the Harmony Boys from defeat.
The result against Gateway means Kwara United failed to get a win in three games at the tournament and handler Abdullahi Biffo responded thus: “There is no cause for alarm because I have gotten what I want in this pre-season, which is to give all the players who came here with me the chance to play.
“Although our plan is to win this tournament, but we will go back to the drawing board and plan well before the season start.”
Meanwhile, Kwara United are expected to leave Ijebu Ode afterwards to Ilorin where they will continue their preparation for the coming NNL season.
United will also in a matter of days roll out the names of the final players who will campaign for the club in serious quest to get promotion.
