Following the violence that erupted and the unsavoury events that took place at Ado Ekiti on 27th April 2018, during a nationwide league match between Top World FC and Offa Football Club, the National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers (NANPF) has given the Top World Football Club Management seven days to fish out the culprits who perpetrated the evil acts for requisite discipline as well as adequately compensate all the players who were the victims of such harassment and violence.
NANPF said that if the management of the club does not comply with the demands of the union within the given time, it shall not hesitate to seek legal redress before the appropriate authorities; including but not limited to the regular court of law.
A statement signed by the NANPF AGS Communication, Comrade Danladi Musa, said: “We hope that the club will take prompt positive action and save itself from avoidable embarrassment and further negative publicity its non-compliance may cause.
“We have been reliably informed and have evidence that as soon as the final whistle was blown to conclude the match, the supporters of Top world FC, the home team invaded the field of play and mobilised the support of some thugs who harassed and physically assaulted the Top world FC players; particularly by beating them with canes.
“It is disheartening that these cases of violence in our industry have taken a meteoric rise, which will further impede the development of our football leagues and cause huge dents to the physical and psychological welfare of our Professional Players,” the statement said.
“The Union expressly and highly condemn in strong terms, the violence meted out against these players who should have been protected, especially by having the supporters adequately controlled,” the statement added.
