Nigeria midfielder Ikechukwu Ibenegbu a.k.a the Mosquito says the Super Eagles will keep improving game by game as the 2016 African Nations Championship continues after an impressive opening day thrashing of Niger.
The Super Eagles on Monday defeated the Mena of Niger Republic 4-1 in their opening Group C game to shoot to the top of the group ahead of Tunisia and Guinea who played a 2-2 draw earlier in the day.
Osas Okoro got the Eagles in front a minute after the restart as Nigeria took the game to Niger after a goalless first half.
Chisom Chikatara, who came in as a substitute for Sunshine Stars attacker Tunde Adeniji turned the game into a one-man show thereafter.
The Abia Warriors striker struck a 17-minute hat-trick aside a brilliant a brilliant effort by Niger’s Zakari Adebayor to give Nigeria the three points.
Ibenegbu, who was substituted for Usman Mohammed feels there is more to come from the team as the competition goes on.
“We thank God for the victory. The first matches are always difficult but I’m glad we got the three points at stake,” he told supersport.com.
“It’s a very good start and we want to build on that. I believe we can do better and the team will keep improving.
“I want the fans to continue praying for the team to do well,” he added
Nigeria will meet Tunisia on Friday in her next Group C game. A win will see the Super Eagles take a step closer to the quarterfinals. © supersport.com
