Arsenal Soccer School coach in Dubai, Marcellinus Anyanwu, has hailed the appointment of Fidelis Ilechukwu as the new head coach of Heartland football club of Owerri. Fidelis Ilechukwu left NPFL side, MFM FC after spending thirteen years at the Lagos-based club. Kamara, as he is fondly called, was unveiled on Monday as the new head coach of the Naze Millionaires.
Anyanwu said in an exclusive interview with Daily Sports that Ilechukwu’s appointment will restore the good old days back to the Owerri-based club. His words: “It is a right step in the right direction. Heartland is a traditional club, a house hold club in Nigeria and Africa, with the appointment of Ilechukwu they will bounce back again.
“A club that has produced stars like Kanu Nwanwko, Uche Okechukwu, and Ben Iroha.”
Marcellinus Anyanwu and Fidelis Ilechukwu both worked as assistant coaches at MFM under Nduka Ugbade.
“Ilechukwu is a great coach. He was able to prove himself at MFM despite limited resources, I am confident he will do even better at Heartland. He is an intelligent guy, easy-going and someone that has passion for the job,” Anyanwu said.
The Former MFM FC assistant coach also praised the Super Eagles for winning the bronze medal at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt while urging the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and the Super Eagles’ coaching crew to beef up the goalkeeping position.
