The Government of Ekiti State has move into action by inaugurating a seven-man committee to look into the proposed sports summit scheduled to hold between September and November this year.
The seven-man organising committee towards ensuring the success of the summit is headed by the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Yemi Owoseni. It is made up of the Director of Sports in the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Evangelist Abejide Adesogan; representative of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Mr. Adedamola Gbenga; and of the State Ministry of Finance, Mr. Gbenga Ajayi.
Other members of the committee are the Chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Ayodeji Ogunsakin, and a former General Manager of the Ekiti State Sports Council, Mr. Adewumi Olukayode (JP).
Speaking during the official inauguration of the committee, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Michael Awopetu, explained that the focus of the Kayode Fayemi-led administration is to discover hidden talents and encourage talented youths.
The commissioner added that the State Government was determined to gainfully engage the youths with sports stressing that one the cardinal objectives of his ministry is to take them out of the streets and get them engaged in productive activities.
Hon. Awopetu urged members of the committee to work assiduously towards achieving the desired goals and stressed the need for them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the State Government.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Yemi Owoseni, who is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the State Sports Summit, pledged on behalf of other members to live up to expectation in the task given to the committee.
Owoseni said no stone would be left unturned to ensure the success of the proposed summit.
