Trabzonspor midfielder, Onazi Ogenyi, has tasked Super Eagles to go all out for the CHAN trophy as Nigeria attempt to become the winner of the fifth edition of the competition.
DR Congo have won the CHAN tournament twice – the maiden in 2009 hosted by Cote d’Ivoire and the 2016 edition in Rwanda. Tunisia won the 2011 edition in Sudan, while Libya won the 2014 edition in South Africa.
Speaking in a chat with Completesportsnigeria, Onazi lauded the home-bases Super Eagles’ resilient showings against Angola and Sudan in the quarter-finals and semi-finala respectively, and charged the players to approach the final clash against Morocco with self-belief and hard work.
“I want to congratulate the team for their feat in the competition so far. We’re very proud of them, having qualified for the final of the competition,” Onazi said.
“There is one more hurdle to cross and that is beating the host country Morocco.
“I just want to encourage them to believe in themselves, just as we did in 2013. It won’t be an easy task especially against the hosts, but with God all things are possible.
“Let’s keep supporting the Eagles and victory will be ours by the special grace of God,” Onazi noted.
Nigeria on Wednesday defeated their Sudan 1-0 to qualify for the final of the CHAN 2018 tournament in Morocco.
The semi-final match at the Stade de Marrakech, saw the Nigerian team take the lead in the 16th minute of the match through Gabriel Okechukwu whose shot from Anthony Okpotu’s pass beat Sudanese goalkeeper Elhadi Akram for the only goal of the match.
