Nigeria’s Super Eagles are due to fly out to Kigali, Rwanda, for the 2016 Championship of African nations (CHAN) on January 15, officials have announced.
The team arrived Pretoria, South Africa, for a training camp on Saturday to meet up with coach Sunday Oliseh, who joined up from his base in Europe.
They defeated the University of Pretoria 3-0 in a test game, Tuesday morning. Tunde Adeniyi scored twice in the game. He had opened scoring from the penalty spot, before midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew fired in a cracker from the top of the box. Adeniji completed the goals of the match after a beautifully worked team pass.
An official who watched the game said: “It was a beautiful game, and the third goal by Adeniyi was great, as it was from a beautiful combination of play.”
The team will face fellow CHAN-bound Angola at the Tuks University Stadium in Pretoria today in another warm-up game. They will also face CHAN-bound Cote d’Ivoire on January 11.
Nigeria, who finished third at their CHAN debut in 2014, are drawn in Group C at the 2016 CHAN along with Tunisia, Guinea and Niger. They open their campaign on January 18 against Niger.
