Benin City is set to host a massive football scouting programme that would offer young and talented players the opportunity of being snapped up by European scouts.
The scouting programme is a national one.
A statement by the media officer for the program being put together by Dynamic Sports Yemi Opatola reads in part:
“The Edo State leg of the project which is also expected to spread across other cities in Nigeria specifically Kano, Lagos, Abuja and Rivers is expected to unmask about 200 fresh talents to be assisted in achieving their life long objective of becoming a professional football player.
“The General Coordinator of Dynamic Africa Stars, Mo Muhammed Mustapha declared in Abuja that the grassroots programme is to commence in Nigeria on June 15 and end on July 7
as Scouts from Switzerland, Germany, France, Russia, South Africa, Tunisia and England will visit the cities chosen to host the programme to assess the players and make their choices.
“ ‘Dynamic Africa Stars is bent on giving opportunities for the abundant talents hidden in our communities and cities to be discovered and harnessed as well as exported to the world. We know it will be massive but we are up to the task.
“ ‘We have the managerial skills in the area of talent discovery and I know with the calibre of scouts coming in, only the best of them will definitely get the chance to express themselves to the highest level of football,’ Mustapha further stressed.”
The Benin leg of the talent hunt holds from June 24 to 26 at the University of Benin Sports Complex and registration forms can be picked at the following centres:
1. Edo State Football Association, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin.
2. Austine Eguavoen Football Academy, 19 Plymouth Rd. Benin City.
3. Jimmytex Ventures LTD, 6 Barnawo Street, off Forestry Road, Benin City.
4. Vuvuzela Sports Club, 35 Airport Rd, Benin City.
5. Holloway Sports Shop, 16, Stadium Road, Benin City.
The talent hunt programme is supported by the African Football Legends, the Edo State Football Association and the Edo State Sports Commission.
It is understood that interested grassroots clubs would have to pay 50,000 naira for participation as a club while individual players would pay 3,000 naira.
