Former Chairman of Gombe State Football Association (GSFA), Alhaji Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe, has described the duo of the U-23 Eagles Head Coach Samson Siasia and his assistant, Fatai Amoo, as a fantastic pair any time.
The seasoned football administrator said he saw the recent African conquest by Dream Team VI under the tutelage of the duo coming.
“I vividly remember that I did post that the combination of these two men is one of the best things to happen to our football,” Gara Gombe said, adding: “If you noticed the surging and rough road they followed to Senegal 2015 AFCON tournament, you will pity them, yet they have delivered. I am supremely sure that some coaches could have failed and given excuses that the NFF failed to provide what they needed to succeed. They have done well. The way and manner they managed the bad situation that even extended to their players allowances is extraordinary.”
The former executive committee member of the NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) further depicted Siasia and Amoo as humble gentlemen, fantastic ex-internationals and unassuming technocrats who delivered despite distractions such as non-payment of salary and neglect of their players’ welfare. Gara Gombe noted that “there are some coaches that even got paid three months in advance but yet they do not know how to teach their players how to score goals.”
The former Special Adviser to Kano State Governor on Sports added that “Siasia and Amoo are licensed coaches and it is on record that they have antecedents.” According to him, “One of the best tacticians we have in the game of football is Dr Terry Eguaoje, who is doing us proud in the US and other places as President of Africa Coaches Association. He is one of those who tutored Siasia. I must posit that the Bayelsa State-born gaffer is maturing now and very soon he will come back to the Super Eagles.”
