Golden Eaglets chief coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, has said that the team cannot afford to fail against host Chile in the second group game in the ongoing FIFA U- 17 World Cup champions.
He pointed out that as usual, playing against host country in tournaments is difficult but added that this set of Eaglets know what is at stake and would go all out as defending champions to clinch victory in this encounter taking place at midnight today.
“We are in Chile to play and win; we are no respecter of any team. The team is focused and are roaring to go, the match which comes up 12am Nigerian will be an epic one in all trappings. We are doing our best to condition the boy to this time fixture. They are eager and they are doing well too. All hands are on deck. We are also aware that it won’t be a tea party. We will equally take the match as it comes. We are not in any pressure. No tension in camp. The spirit is high and clam,” he said.
Amuneke who led the squad to defeat USA 2-0 in the group’s opening game revealed that the confidence level of the lads has drastically increased. According to him, “It is a continuous process and we have continued to work on the squad and we are sure we will get good result against Chile.
“The Eaglets must rise up to prove bookmakers wrong by playing strictly their kind of football which would lead them to victory. The team is becoming compact and as work in progress side we are leaving no stone unturned to implore water tight strategies that would ensure victory. The Chileans knew it won’t be easy either against us and that mutual suspicion would be there and we will get over it.”
Daily Sports reports that the Eaglets defeated USA 2-0 in the opening group game and any win against Chile would see the Nigerian side in comfortable grip of the group.
