Dele-Bashiru weds Moroccan heartthrob

By Daily Sports Nigeria on August 13, 2025

Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has tied the knot with his Moroccan girlfriend Nana Bensouna, in a solemn nikkah ceremony in Manchester, United Kingdom, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The ceremony was witnessed by the couple’s parents, Otunba and Yeye Jagunmola Dele and Dupe Bashiru-Kaka and Mr and Mrs Bensouna, as well as other members of their immediate families.

Dele-Bashiru has led a quiet love life with Bensouna, and both got married in a small gathering.

The wedding comes at a defining summer for Dele-Bashiru, who is bracing for a new role under the new Lazio coach, Maurizio Sarri.

He is expected to feature prominently, having impressed the coach during pre-season. He has played in both of their two friendly games against Avellino and Fenerbahce.

Last season, he played 20 league games and scored three goals under Marco Baroni and has been tipped for more involvement by Sarri ahead of their Serie A opener against Como on August 24.

Sarri is convinced the former Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester City lad can evolve into a key contributor this season.

“Dele-Bashiru is a very strong guy who, if he manages to learn a few moves, can give us a big hand,” Sarri told Pazzidifanta.

“I have heard good things about him from professionals outside of Lazio. And I’m not talking about the Lazio environment, but about sporting directors from other clubs. Probably he has some qualities, evidently.”

Dele-Bashiru joined Lazio last summer from Hatayspor initially on a loan deal before the Italian club made the move permanent for a transfer fee in the region of €5m.

At the national team level, he has made seven appearances for Nigeria, scoring two goals.

He made an immediate impact in his first two games for Nigeria, providing an assist and winning a penalty against Mozambique in an international friendly on October 16, 2023, and then scoring a stunning equaliser against South Africa on his competitive debut in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.
