In what is yet another tragedy to hit Nigerian football, star defender defender Dominic Dukku has slumped and died while warming up for a match. Dukku, formerly of Kano Pillars FC, Nembe City FC and Taraba United FC, died in the evening of Thursday, December 13, 2018.

The seasoned defenceman, who until his death was plying his trade with Sokoto United Football Club, slumped and died while warming up before a friendly match between an Abuja amateur side Abuja United and Nasarawa United at the Lafia Township Stadium, Nasarawa State.

All efforts to revive him prove abortive as he gave up the ghost few minutes after he fell down on the pitch.

The late defender played 90 minutes in Sokoto United’s last Nigerian Nationwide League (NNL) group match of the season against EFCC FC at Keffi on Sunday, December 2, 2018.

Late Dominic Dukku, an indigene of Benue State, left behind his siblings, wife and two kids.

Mourning him, the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) said it received the news of his death “with rude shock”.

“May God grant the family, friends, former clubs, Sokoto United FC management, officials, players, supporters, the good people of Benue State, Sokoto States and all sports loving Nigerians the fortitude to bear this irreparable lost, and also comfort them in this time of pain and discomfort.

“We urge the deceased current and former Clubs like Taraba United FC and others who are still owing the late player huge sum of money to please come to the aid of the family of the late player during and after his burial,” NANPF said in a statement issued on Saturday by the AGS Communication, Comrade Danladi Musa.
