Zidane ready to return amid United links — Son

Zinedine Zidane will return to coaching soon, his eldest son Enzo has said, amid speculation he could be a potential target for Manchester United.

Zidane stepped down as Real Madrid coach at the end of last season after guiding them to a third straight Champions League. “We all know that my father loves football and loves to coach,” Enzo, who plays for Rayo Majadahonda on loan from Swiss club Lausanne, told Diario AS.

“It’s most likely that he will return to coaching soon.”

He added that his father had been enjoying his break from management, saying: “Now he is resting because it’s something he needed.

“Even though managing Madrid is beautiful, it’s tough, with a lot of work.”

Zidane was also reported to be interesting Bayern Munich amid speculation about the future of Niko Kovac.

But several reports have suggested he could replace United manager Jose Mourinho if he leaves Old Trafford.

Mourinho signed an extension to his contract at United until 2020 with an option to prolong it for a further year, but his team have struggled for form this season and are seventh in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Enzo said Cristiano Ronaldo’s summer departure from Madrid had caught everyone by surprise.

The club’s all-time leading scorer joined Juventus in a €100 million deal after nine years at the Bernabeu.

“No one expected it,” Enzo, who said. “I personally didn’t. He decided to leave, and things are going very well for him.” (ESPN)
